Career Summary

Ryan joined Denver7 (KMGH) as an investigative reporter in July 2016 after three years at KOB-TV, Albuquerque as both an investigative and general assignment reporter covering the entire of state of New Mexico.

Ryan’s best work exposed numerous ethical problems in state and local government.  Among them, an exhaustive analysis of campaign finance records which uncovered enormous discrepancies in political contributions reported by lobbyists and elected leaders.  His work led the New Mexico Legislature to unanimously enact reforms to streamline the state’s campaign reporting system and make it easier for New Mexicans to understand who’s bankrolling political campaigns.

For his work the New Mexico Broadcasters Association named Ryan the state’s Reporter of the Year in 2016.

Ryan previously worked as an investigative reporter at KETV in Omaha, KCCI in Des Moines and KOMU in Columbia, Missouri.

In Missouri, he was the recipient of a regional Edward R. Murrow award for an investigative series he and a colleague reported that exposed how severe weather can compromise the structural integrity of aircraft hangers on U.S. Air Force bases.

Ryan grew up in Chagrin Falls, Ohio – a small suburb of Cleveland. He graduated the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri.

Ryan says he moved to Denver because he’s grown to love mountains and the Southwest.  Look closely and you’ll find him hiking and frequently visiting communities across Colorado and New Mexico.

Ryan says, “I genuinely have a passion for investigating problems. I stand up for the little guy – the everyday person who gets railroaded.  I also work to expose public corruption and the misuse of taxpayer dollars.”
