Career Summary

Rex is an award-winning sports reporter working in a newsman’s disguise at ABC 21 WPTA-TV in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Rex produces and anchors the weekend morning newscasts and reports weekdays for his station’s morning news. He is also the fill-in sports anchor.

Additionally, Rex is a play-by-play announcer and videographer for SummitCitySports.com, a Fort Wayne media company that provides live broadcasts and in-depth coverage of local high school sports. Between high school football, basketball and hockey games, Rex has called more than 30 games. They are streamed live on Facebook and YouTube. He also runs the scoreboard and all of the on-screen graphics for his broadcasts through the program production truck.

As a news reporter, Rex has covered everything from city council meetings to Allen County breaking its homicide record, and to the 2016 presidential election where he reported live from Indianapolis on election night.

His favorite story is called ‘The Longest Yard’ and it earned first place for the best sports report or program at the 2017 Associated Press Indiana Broadcasters Association Awards. Rex was also part of a group that took third place at the 2017 Society of Professional Journalists “Best in Indiana” Awards for breaking news reporting.

Rex graduated from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a minor in Sport Administration.
