Career Summary

WJW Cleveland's motto is "Cleveland's Own" and it rings true now as John Sabol comes home to WJW FOX8 Cleveland as its new weekend news and sports anchor and reporter. John is a northeast Ohio native who grew up on Cleveland sports and who was even a college sports intern at FOX8. He also joins an even closer Cleveland native at the station, his brother, Fox 8 morning meteorologist Scott Sabol.

For the past several years, John worked the same unique role as both news and sports anchor of the highly rated weekend newscasts on WFTS, Tampa Florida. Since 2018 he also served as the station’s lead sports reporter/anchor and host/producer of numerous Tampa Bay Lightning playoff specials.

John says he still loves sports, but that doing the news too, grabbed him. His anchoring combines the fun and excitement of sports with the earnestness and significance of news.

John joined WFTS from WOWK, Charleston, West Virginia where he was an award-winning sports director. John earned his journalism degree at Kent State University.

He is the youngest of five kids and married his high school sweetheart. He and Alyssa and their young daughter love to travel, spend time with family, and always hang with their golden retriever, Myla.
